Our Lady is often depicted in her heavenly apparitions with a sash around her waist. This indicates that Mary is pregnant, that she is the Mother of God. She appeared, wearing a blue sash as Our Lady of Lourdes, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Our Lady of Fatima, Our Lady of All Nations, and Our Lady of America. However, the sash also reminds us that she is Our Mother as well and that it is her role to birth Christ within the hearts of all her beloved children.
St. Catherine Laboure described a vision she received, saying,
“Suddenly I noticed rings on her fingers, rings with precious stones, some more beautiful than others, some larger and some smaller, which gave out rays of light, some more beautiful than others.”
Then, she heard: “The precious stones which give out no rays of light are the graces that people forget to ask me for.” Our Lady has so much she wants to give, but these graces must be asked for. “Ask, and it shall be given you: seek, and you shall find: knock, and it shall be opened to you” (Matthew 7:7).
